Rob was into music from an early age, at primary school he obtained an old wind up gramophone record player and a collection of early rock and roll 78’s, which he subsequently shot to pieces with an air rifle (what would they be worth now), he also found that by jamming a piece of card against the turn table to slow it down, he could play his collection of 45’s most of which he still has.

During the 60’s his dad bought a proper record player, at last those 45’s didn’t have to suffer that dreaded gramophone needle, his record collection then started to grow with singles from The Kinks, the Troggs and early Stones and Canned Heat LP’s constantly blasting out of the tiny mono speaker.

By the early 70’s and now at work as an apprentice engineer rob bought his first stereo system, he was now into Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Iron Butterfly, one Sunday with “ In Rock “ at full chat his gran hammered on his bedroom door and shouted “ your driving your dad up the bend “ she always was a little confused bless her.

Rob spent some of his leisure time in Lutterworth with work mates, one of which Graham Eckersley was part of a band they were known as `Piltdown man` and were looking for a singer, Graham asked Rob if he wanted to come to a rehearsal, speaking to the bass player years later Simon recalls hearing the roar of a motorbike followed by a leather clad figure walking into the rehearsal room grabbing the mike which was already set up and yelling “ you ain`t nothin` but a hound dog “ after which the rest of the band looked at each other and said “you’re in” or was it “urine” . Now the seeds were set and the band rehearsed for several weeks and organized a gig at the local village hall.

The band eventually split up with members going in their own directions. Nicky went on to play with the UK Subs, Simon and Alan formed the DT`s and Graham plays in a duo with his brother.

There was a long gap before Rob got involved in a band again, and it all happened by chance. After attending a drum workshop in Peterborough were he now lives, he met Maurice and with other friends Colin, Trev and Ray suggested a jamming session, this was in 1993 twenty years after  `Piltdown man ` the band “ Hooker ” were formed, and six years on are still rocking, the rest as they say is history, but nice history......

Rob and Trev also appeared on TV, competing in Channel 4's Scrapheap Challenge. A show in which 2 teams have to build something out of scrap, and then use their invention to beat the others in a knockout competition. Click on the logo below to see how they got on....
